SOUL ISSUES:  “Steam and Tracks”

Charles Fillmore, co-founder of the Unity Movement, once said, “The head alone is tyrannical. The heart alone is chaotic. The head and heart together is mastery.”

A winning formula to use in succeeding toward our goals is one that includes finding a healthy balance of passion and direction.

A steam locomotive needs two essential ingredients to get where it is going. The fire in the engine generates steam that propels the engine, while the tracks guide it in a chosen direction. If the engine has its steam but no tracks, it will flail about chaotically and get nowhere. If it has tracks but no steam, it would know where to go and how to get there, but it would sit idly, literally dead in its tracks. Combine the elements of steam and tracks and you have a powerful vehicle and useful route.

If you intend to achieve your valued goals, you need both steam and tracks. You need passion, motivation, and enthusiasm; and you need clarity, purpose, and direction. If either is lacking, you will not get where you want to go. Join the two and you are sure to arrive, and enjoy the process.

Today, think about where you are headed and consider if you have enough steam and tracks. If not, think about what it would take to add the element that is lacking or out of balance. You may need to 1. Develop the lacking element, 2. Invite a partner to fill in the blank in the equation, or 3. Drop the project and choose another that has both steam and tracks. You can and will get anywhere you want to go if you engage the power of both head and heart.

Affirmation: “I get where I want to go by letting my heart move me and my head guide me.”
